The Upper dune road is the northern of the two gravel roads that cross the red dunes between the Auob and Nossob riverbeds, running from the Kamqua area on the Auob road to Dikbaardskolk on the Nossob road. It is the usual way between Nossob and Mata-Mata, and the dune crossing gives a very different landscape from the riverbeds. Moravet Pan is near the road.
