opspoor exists to promote ethical, responsible, and conservation-aligned wildlife tracking. The platform is designed to encourage appreciation of wildlife while protecting animals, habitats, ecosystems, and the safety of people observing them.

By using opspoor, users agree to follow responsible wildlife viewing practices and comply with all applicable laws, park regulations, and conservation guidelines.

1. Respect Wildlife

• Do not approach, chase, disturb, or provoke animals.
• Maintain safe and legally required viewing distances.
• Avoid blocking animal movement or natural behavior.
• Follow all park, reserve, and conservation authority rules.
• Do not use sightings to intentionally track or pressure animals.

2. Protect Sensitive Species

Certain species may be considered sensitive due to conservation risk, vulnerability, or potential exploitation.

opspoor delays every sighting and blurs every location (wider for sensitive species), and never publishes rhino locations. It may also restrict or remove sightings where necessary to protect wildlife. The exact rules we apply are set out on our responsible sightings page.

3. Anti-Poaching & Illegal Activity

opspoor strictly prohibits the use of the platform to facilitate poaching, illegal hunting, wildlife trafficking, harassment of animals, or any activity that violates conservation laws.

Accounts associated with suspicious or harmful activity may be suspended or permanently removed. Where appropriate, information may be reported to relevant conservation authorities or law enforcement.

4. Responsible Sighting Reporting

Users should ensure that sightings are reported accurately and responsibly.

• Avoid intentionally posting misleading sightings.
• Do not share sightings that may endanger wildlife.
• Use the community validation system responsibly.
• Respect that sightings may become outdated quickly.

Sightings show as “Awaiting confirmation” until other visitors confirm them.

5. Ethical Photography & Conduct

• Do not bait, lure, or manipulate wildlife.
• Stay in your vehicle except where park rules allow it.
• Keep to the park’s speed limits, even to reach a sighting.
• Don’t crowd a sighting: leave room, give others a turn, and move on.
• Do not trespass on private or protected land.
• Do not interfere with conservation operations.
• Respect other visitors, guides, and local communities.

6. Platform Responsibility

opspoor may moderate, restrict, delay, or remove wildlife sightings or content that could pose a risk to animals, habitats, or public safety.

These measures are intended to protect wildlife and maintain responsible use of the platform.
