The dam is a productive waterpoint where hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, elephants and a variety of waterbirds can be seen, while the surrounding riverine vegetation adds to its wildlife appeal. It is also a recognised lookout point in Kruger’s Pretoriuskop section.
