About the Wild Dog
The African wild dog is a highly social African carnivore recognised by its large rounded ears, long legs and unique coat pattern of irregular black, brown, yellow and white patches. It lives in packs dominated by a breeding pair and is one of Africa's most specialised cooperative hunters. Wild dogs hunt mainly medium-sized antelope but can pursue a wide range of prey, working together to exhaust and isolate their target. Packs communicate constantly and care cooperatively for pups and injured members.
How to identify the Wild Dog
Slender, long-legged canid with a large rounded head, large ears and a distinctive irregular coat of black, brown, tan, white and yellowish patches. Each individual has a unique coat pattern.
