About the Northern Black Korhaan
The northern black korhaan is a ground-dwelling bustard of open grassland and savanna in parts of southern Africa. It has cryptic brown and buff plumage, with males displaying more striking black-and-white markings. It feeds mainly on insects and other invertebrates, supplemented by seeds and plant material. It spends most of its time walking through open vegetation and is generally encountered singly or in pairs, with males becoming particularly conspicuous during territorial and courtship displays.
How to identify the Northern Black Korhaan
Large ground-dwelling bustard with a grey-brown to sandy back, white underparts and distinctive black-and-white markings on the head, neck and wings. Males are generally larger and more strongly marked than females.
