About the African Pygmy Goose
The African pygmy goose is a tiny African waterfowl species associated with freshwater wetlands, lakes, rivers and areas with abundant floating vegetation. It has a compact body, short bill and striking contrasting plumage, with males generally more brightly coloured than females. It feeds mainly on floating aquatic vegetation, seeds and other plant material, occasionally taking small aquatic invertebrates. It is usually encountered in pairs or small groups and spends much of its time resting and feeding among aquatic plants.
How to identify the African Pygmy Goose
Very small duck with a short bill and compact body. Males have a dark green head, white face and yellowish sides, while females are more subdued brown with a pale facial pattern. Often seen resting low on the water among floating vegetation.
