About the Little Grebe
The little grebe is a small freshwater diving bird found on ponds, lakes, dams, marshes and slow-moving waterways with suitable vegetation. It has a compact body, short neck, pointed bill and lobed toes adapted for swimming and diving. Breeding adults develop rich chestnut and dark plumage with a distinctive yellow-green bill marking.
