About the Chacma Baboon
The chacma baboon is a large, highly adaptable primate of southern Africa, found in savanna, woodland, grassland, rocky areas and increasingly around human-modified habitats. It has a robust body, long muzzle, powerful limbs and a long tail, with males substantially larger than females. Chacma baboons are omnivorous and feed on fruit, seeds, roots, leaves, insects, small vertebrates and other available food. They live in large, complex troops with strong social hierarchies and spend much of their time foraging, grooming and travelling together.
