About the Goliath Heron
The goliath heron is the world's largest heron and is strongly associated with freshwater and coastal wetlands across sub-Saharan Africa. It has a massive dagger-like bill, long legs and a distinctive grey, chestnut and black plumage pattern. It is primarily a solitary hunter, usually standing motionless in shallow water before striking fish and other aquatic prey with its powerful bill. It may also take frogs, reptiles, small mammals and other animals when opportunities arise.
