About the Eurasian Hobby
The Eurasian hobby is a small, fast-flying falcon that breeds across Europe and Asia and migrates to Africa during the non-breeding season. It has dark slate-grey upperparts, pale streaked underparts, a dark head and distinctive reddish undertail and thighs. It is an agile aerial hunter that catches birds, bats and large flying insects in flight, often pursuing prey at high speed. In southern Africa it is primarily encountered as a migrant during the warmer months.
