About the Yellow Mongoose
The yellow mongoose is a small southern African mongoose with a slender body, pointed face and characteristically yellowish to reddish-brown coat. It is mainly diurnal and occurs in open woodland, savanna, grassland and semi-arid habitats, often using burrows for shelter. Its diet is varied and includes insects, rodents, reptiles, birds, eggs and other small prey. It is generally solitary, although individuals may live in loose social associations and share burrow systems.
How to identify the Yellow Mongoose
Small, slender mongoose with a golden-yellow to reddish coat, pointed muzzle, small rounded ears and a long bushy tail. The underside is usually paler and the tail often has a darker tip.
