About the Vervet Monkey
The vervet monkey is a highly social African primate found across a wide range of woodland, savanna, riverine and human-modified habitats. It has grey fur, a dark face, pale underparts and a long tail. Vervet monkeys are omnivorous and feed on fruit, leaves, seeds, flowers, insects, eggs and small vertebrates. They live in complex troops with established social hierarchies and use a variety of vocalisations and alarm calls to communicate and warn one another about predators.
How to identify the Vervet Monkey
Medium-sized monkey with a grey to olive-brown coat, black face, pale cheek whiskers and a long tail. Adult males have prominent canine teeth and often show a bluish scrotum, while females and juveniles are smaller.
