About the Tsessebe
The tsessebe is a large, fast-running antelope of southern and eastern Africa, closely associated with open grassland and savanna. It has a reddish-brown coat, dark markings on the face and legs, a sloping back and short, distinctive horns in both sexes. It is primarily a grazer and feeds mainly on grasses. Tsessebe are social and may form herds ranging from small family groups to large gatherings, particularly where food and water are concentrated.
How to identify the Tsessebe
Medium-large antelope with a reddish-brown to grey-brown coat, dark markings on the face and legs, a black tail and a distinctive elongated head. Both sexes have ridged horns that curve backwards and then forwards.
