About the Spotted Eagle Owl
The spotted eagle-owl is a medium-sized African owl found across a wide range of habitats including savanna, woodland, grassland, rocky areas and urban environments. It has a rounded head, prominent ear tufts, yellow eyes and heavily patterned brown, grey and white plumage. It is primarily nocturnal and an opportunistic predator, feeding on rodents, birds, reptiles, frogs, insects and other small animals. It usually hunts from a perch, dropping or flying down onto prey.
How to identify the Spotted Eagle Owl
Medium-sized owl with a rounded head, prominent ear tufts, yellow eyes and a heavily spotted and barred brown-and-white body. The facial disc is pale with dark edging and the underside is strongly streaked.
