About the Southern Masked Weaver
The southern masked weaver is a small, highly adaptable African weaver recognised by its bright yellow breeding plumage, black facial mask in males and intricately woven hanging nests. It is commonly found in grassland, savanna, woodland, wetlands and gardens. It feeds mainly on seeds, grains, insects and other small invertebrates. Southern masked weavers are social and often breed in colonies, with males constructing multiple nests from grass and other plant fibres to attract females.
