About the Southern African Rock Python

The southern African rock python is a very large, non-venomous constricting snake found mainly in southern Africa. It has a heavy muscular body covered with irregular brown, olive and dark markings that provide excellent camouflage. It occurs in a wide range of habitats, often near water, and is a capable swimmer and climber. It is an ambush predator that kills prey by constriction and feeds on mammals, birds and other animals, with larger individuals capable of taking substantial prey.
