About the Scrub Hare
The scrub hare is a widespread African hare associated with grassland, savanna, woodland edges and areas of dense scrub. It has a robust body, long ears, powerful hind legs and cryptic brown-grey fur that helps it blend into vegetation. It is mainly nocturnal and feeds primarily on grasses and other vegetation. Scrub hares are generally solitary and rely on their speed and ability to make sudden changes of direction to escape predators.
How to identify the Scrub Hare
Medium-sized hare with long ears, large dark eyes, powerful hind legs and a brown, grey and rufous coat that provides excellent camouflage. The upperparts are often grizzled brown while the underside is pale.
