About the Saddle billed Stork
The saddle-billed stork is one of Africa's largest wading birds and is recognised by its striking black-and-white plumage, exceptionally long legs and huge red-and-black bill with a distinctive yellow saddle-shaped shield at the base. It is strongly associated with rivers, lakes, floodplains, marshes and other shallow wetlands. It feeds mainly on fish, frogs, reptiles, crustaceans and other aquatic animals, usually hunting by walking slowly through shallow water and striking rapidly at prey.
How to identify the Saddle billed Stork
Very large stork with a striking black-and-white body, long black legs and an enormous red-and-black bill with a distinctive yellow saddle-shaped patch near the base. Adult males have red eyes, while females generally have yellowish eyes.
