About the Sacred Ibis
The sacred ibis is a large African wading bird with predominantly white plumage, black head and neck, black wing tips and a long, curved black bill. It is commonly associated with wetlands, rivers, lakes, grasslands and areas of shallow water, but it is also highly adaptable and frequently occurs around human-modified habitats. It feeds on a wide range of prey including insects, worms, crustaceans, frogs, small fish and other small animals, as well as plant material. It is highly social and often gathers in large feeding and roosting groups.
How to identify the Sacred Ibis
Large white ibis with a bare black head and neck, long down-curved black bill and long black legs. In flight, the black tips of the wings contrast with the mostly white body.
