The pygmy musk shrew is one of Africa's smallest mammals and is a tiny, insect-eating shrew associated with grassland, woodland, savanna and areas of dense ground cover. It has a pointed snout, tiny eyes, short legs and a small compact body. It feeds primarily on insects and other small invertebrates and is highly active while searching through vegetation and leaf litter. Its small size and secretive habits make it difficult to observe in the wild.
