About the Mozambique Spitting Cobra
The Mozambique spitting cobra is a highly venomous snake of eastern and southern Africa, commonly associated with woodland, savanna, grassland and areas near human habitation. It is usually brown, olive or grey with darker markings and has a relatively slender body. It is an opportunistic predator that feeds on frogs, lizards, snakes, small mammals, birds and other prey. When threatened, it can project venom toward the eyes of a perceived threat and may also bite if closely approached.
How to identify the Mozambique Spitting Cobra
Medium to large, robust cobra with a broad head and smooth scales. Colour varies from olive, brown or grey to almost black, often with darker bands or markings. When threatened it raises the front of its body and spreads a broad hood.
