About the Kori Bustard
The kori bustard is the world's heaviest flying bird and a large ground-dwelling bird of African savanna, grassland and open woodland. It has a long neck, long legs, predominantly grey and brown plumage and striking black-and-white markings on the head, neck and wings. It is an opportunistic omnivore, feeding on insects, small reptiles, rodents, seeds and plant material. Kori bustards spend most of their time walking slowly across open ground and generally avoid unnecessary flight.
How to identify the Kori Bustard
Very large ground-dwelling bird with a long neck and legs, large body and predominantly grey-brown plumage. Males have a prominent black crest and neck markings, while females are generally less boldly marked.
