About the Greater Red Musk Shrew
The greater red musk shrew is a relatively large African shrew with a pointed snout, small eyes and a long, slender body. It occurs in a variety of habitats including grassland, woodland, savanna and areas with dense ground cover. It is primarily insectivorous, feeding on insects and other invertebrates, but may also take small vertebrate prey. It is generally solitary and active mainly at night, using its highly developed sense of smell to locate food.
How to identify the Greater Red Musk Shrew
Large shrew with a pointed snout, small eyes and ears partly hidden in the fur. The coat is generally grey-brown to yellowish-brown, with a paler underside and a relatively robust body compared with smaller shrew species.
