About the Crested Barbet
The crested barbet is a colourful, medium-sized African barbet associated with woodland, savanna, gardens and areas containing fruiting trees. It has a distinctive crest, a stout bill and boldly patterned plumage with yellow, red, black and white markings. It feeds mainly on fruit, berries and insects and often forages methodically among branches and foliage. It is commonly encountered singly or in pairs and is often detected by its loud, repetitive calls.
