About the Cape Wolf Snake
The Cape wolf snake is a small, non-venomous snake found across parts of southern Africa. It has a slender body, smooth scales and variable brown, grey or olive coloration, often with darker markings. It is mainly nocturnal and secretive, spending much of its time beneath cover or among vegetation. It feeds primarily on small reptiles and amphibians, including geckos and skinks, which it subdues with its jaws rather than venom.
How to identify the Cape Wolf Snake
Small, slender, mostly nocturnal snake with smooth scales and a dark brown, olive or grey-brown upper body. The head is relatively small and not strongly distinct from the neck. Often found under rocks, logs or other cover.
