About the Cape Eagle Owl
The Cape Eagle-Owl is a large, powerful owl found in mountainous regions, rocky outcrops, grasslands, and open savannas of southern and eastern Africa. It is a nocturnal predator that hunts mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians, relying on exceptional hearing and silent flight to ambush prey. Usually solitary or found in breeding pairs, it roosts on cliffs, rocky ledges, or large trees during the day.
How to identify the Cape Eagle Owl
Large owl with prominent ear tufts, yellow eyes and a heavily barred and mottled brown-and-white body. The facial disc is pale with dark edging, and the overall plumage provides excellent camouflage among rocks and woodland.
