About the Brown Water Snake
The brown water snake is a non-venomous snake of southern Africa, commonly associated with wetlands, rivers, streams, dams and other areas with access to water. It is generally brown to reddish-brown with darker markings and has a slender body. It feeds mainly on frogs and other amphibians but may also take fish and small reptiles. It is usually secretive and can be active both during the day and at night depending on conditions.
