About the Bat eared Fox
The bat-eared fox is a small, nocturnal canid of eastern and southern Africa, recognised by its exceptionally large ears, slender muzzle and relatively short legs. It is mainly insectivorous, with termites and harvester termites forming a major part of its diet, supplemented by other insects, small vertebrates and fruit. It is commonly found in open grassland, savanna and semi-arid habitats. Bat-eared foxes are social and often live in pairs or small family groups.
How to identify the Bat eared Fox
Small fox-like mammal with very large rounded ears, a black facial mask, greyish-brown coat, dark legs and a bushy tail with a dark tip. The oversized ears are its most distinctive feature.
