About the Banded Mongoose
The banded mongoose is a small to medium-sized social mongoose recognised by its grey-brown coat marked with numerous darker bands across the back and sides. It occurs mainly in savanna, woodland and grassland and is highly social, commonly living in groups that forage, travel and rest together. Its diet is varied and includes insects, reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, birds, eggs and fruit. Groups cooperate in raising young and may defend themselves collectively against predators.
