Tshwene, Pilanesberg National Park

The Tshwene is a 11.4 km tar road in Pilanesberg National Park, starting at Manyane Gate. It connects to Dithabaneng, Hippo Loop, Kgabo, Korwe and Mankwe. Here's what lives along it, where to stop, and when it's most active.

Tshwene is the tarred road from Manyane Gate, the eastern entrance most visitors from Johannesburg and Pretoria use, toward the middle of the park. It starts beside Manyane Resort and passes Tilodi Dam, which has a bird hide, and Twin Dams, two small dams whose water levels change with the season. Hippo Loop and Thlware turn off toward Mankwe Dam, the largest body of water in Pilanesberg. Many of the eastern gravel roads start from Tshwene, so it is the backbone for loops on this side. Tshwene is the Setswana word for baboon.
