About the Crowned Eagle
The crowned eagle is a powerful forest and woodland raptor of sub-Saharan Africa, recognised by its broad wings, long tail, prominent crest and striking dark-and-white plumage. It is a highly capable predator that specialises in hunting mammals, particularly monkeys and small antelope, but also takes birds and other prey. It hunts mainly from concealed perches within woodland or forest and uses its powerful talons to subdue prey. It is generally territorial and is usually encountered singly or in pairs.
