About the Bushpig
The bushpig is a robust, nocturnal wild pig found across much of sub-Saharan Africa. It has a dark brown to black coat, a stocky body, a prominent mane along the back and a long snout with strong tusks, particularly in males. Bushpigs are highly adaptable and occur in woodland, forest margins, savanna and areas close to water. They are omnivorous and feed on roots, bulbs, fruits, grasses, crops, invertebrates and carrion. They are generally social, often living in small family groups.
How to identify the Bushpig
Large, stocky pig with a coarse dark grey to brown coat, elongated snout, large ears and prominent tusks in adults. Often has a mane-like ridge of longer hair along the back.
