About the Bateleur Eagle
The bateleur eagle is a distinctive medium-sized African eagle recognised by its short tail, broad wings, upright posture and striking black, white and chestnut plumage. It occurs mainly in open woodland and savanna and spends much of its time soaring while searching for prey. It is an opportunistic predator and scavenger, feeding on reptiles, birds, small mammals, carrion and occasionally insects. Bateleurs are powerful fliers and can travel considerable distances while foraging.
