About the Water Mongoose
The water mongoose is a large, predominantly nocturnal mongoose strongly associated with wetlands, rivers, streams, marshes and other areas with permanent or seasonal water. It has a dark brown to black coat, relatively short legs and a broad, bushy tail. It is an excellent swimmer and feeds opportunistically on crabs, frogs, fish, insects, small mammals, birds and other aquatic or terrestrial prey. It is generally solitary and often rests in dense vegetation near water.
