About the Helmeted Guineafowl
The helmeted guineafowl is a highly social African gamebird recognised by its rounded body, bare blue and red head, small casque and finely spotted black-and-white plumage. It is widespread and adaptable, occurring in savanna, grassland, woodland, farmland and areas close to human habitation. It feeds mainly on seeds, grains, shoots, roots and other plant material, supplemented by insects and other invertebrates. Guineafowl commonly travel in large groups and spend much of their time foraging on the ground.
