About the Mountain Reedbuck
A medium-sized antelope adapted to rocky hills, mountainous grasslands and steep terrain. The Mountain Reedbuck has a grey-brown coat, white underparts and a distinctive bushy tail with a white underside. It is primarily a grazer and is usually found singly, in pairs or in small groups, often remaining close to rocky slopes where it can escape predators. It is listed as Endangered, and its numbers are declining because of hunting pressure and habitat loss.
How to identify the Mountain Reedbuck
Small, slender grey-brown antelope with a reddish neck and shoulders, white underparts and long narrow ears with a bare black scent patch beneath. Only males have short, forward-curving horns. Look for it on rocky hillsides, not in reedbeds like the Common Reedbuck.

When alarmed, Mountain Reedbuck give a shrill whistle and bound away with a rocking gait, raising the tail to flash its white underside. Mothers hide their young in dense vegetation for at least the first month.
