About the African Pipit

The African pipit is a small, ground-dwelling passerine of grassland, savanna, open woodland and agricultural areas. It has streaked brown upperparts, pale underparts and a relatively slender bill and legs. It spends much of its time walking across the ground searching for insects and other invertebrates, while seeds may also form part of its diet. It is usually encountered singly or in pairs and is often easier to detect by its distinctive calls and aerial display than by sight.

How to identify the African Pipit

Small, slender ground-feeding bird with a brown streaked back, pale underparts, a narrow bill and a relatively long tail. The underparts often show warm buff or cinnamon colouring, particularly on the breast and flanks.
